Do you ever wonder if your social media posts are too long?  Too short? Or if are they just right? When it comes to social media, there is an ideal length for your posts, depending on which social channel you’re posting to. The Perfect LinkedIn Post

OkDork recently analyzed 3,000 of the most successful LinkedIn blog posts and discovered that posts containing between 1,500 and 2,000 words earned the most comments, likes and shares.

Paul Shapiro of Search Wilderness came to a similar conclusion not too long ago. His research found that posts containing 1,900 to 2,000 words performed best on the platform.

This goes against the belief that “brevity means business” in the social media world – or, at least it does for LinkedIn. Research shows that while LinkedIn members enjoy long-form content, users of other social platforms prefer posts that are short and sweet.

The Perfect Facebook Post

BuzzSumo analyzed over 800 million Facebook posts in 2016 and found that posts with less than 50 characters got a lot more action than those exceeding that amount. Jeff Bullas further confirmed this information with his findings that Facebook posts containing 80 characters or less receive as much as 66 percent higher engagement.

The Perfect Twitter Post

Twitter may have doubled its allowable characters in 2017, but that doesn’t mean that its users want you to use that space. Buddy Media discovered that tweets containing 100 characters or less received an average of 17 percent higher engagement. The sweet spot, it turns out, is somewhere between 71 to 100 characters, and the best Twitter hashtags are less than 6 characters in length.

The Perfect Instagram Post

Some may be surprised to hear that Instagram captions can be over 2,000 characters in length. The ideal amount for organic posts, however, is no more than 150 characters, and Sponsored posts are best kept at under 125 characters.

What About Video Posts?

Videos between 30 to 60 seconds perform best on Facebook, while LinkedIn users prefer shorter videos of no more than 30 seconds.

But it turns out that YouTube is a different story. ReelSEO found that the most engaging videos on YouTube are less than 3 minutes long, coming in at a preferred length of 2 minutes and 54 seconds.
