Quick Guide to Facebook Ads

Quick Guide to Facebook Ads

1.6 billion people are connected to small businesses on Facebook. More than two billion people use Facebook every month. With this level of reach, every pool and spa business should already have a presence on Facebook. The platform allows you to reach any audience you want, at any time. Creating effective Facebook Ads for your industry can be one of the most efficient marketing tools, as long as you know what you’re doing. To help you generate more leads on Facebook, we put together a Quick Guide to Facebook Ads here:

How to Create a Facebook Ad

Choose Your Goal

First, choose your business or marketing goal. Facebook offers six types to choose from:

  • Build Brand Awareness
  • Grow Sales Online
  • Increase Local Sales
  • Generate Leads
  • Retarget Existing Customers
  • Promote Your App

Decide what outcome you want from your ad and choose the marketing goal that’s right for you. Once you’ve done that, it’s time to select your audience.

Choose Your Target Audience

Facebook will automatically show your ads to people they determine to find your ads relevant. You can specifically target your ads to the audience you choose with three selection tools:

  • Core Audiences
  • Custom Audiences
  • Lookalike Audiences

Core audiences allow you to define an audience based on criteria like age, interests, geography, and more.

Custom audiences let you get back in touch with people who have engaged with your business online or offline.

Lookalike audiences will reach new people who have similar interests to those of your best customers.

If you’re unsure of where to start, you can use Facebook’s “Audience Insights” tool. Audience Insights allows you to explore the demographics, interests, and behaviors of people connected to your Page.

Decide Where to Run Your Ad

Next, choose where you want to run your ad. Through Facebook Ads Manager, you can run ads on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Audience Network, or all of them. You can also choose to run your ads on specific mobile devices. You can learn more about each type of ad placement in Facebook’s Business Help Center.

Set Your Budget

In this step, enter your budget and the time period when you want your ads to run. These limits prevent you from spending more than you plan to spend on your ads. You can choose to spend anywhere from five dollars a week to fifty thousand dollars – it all depends on your budget and needs. Go to Facebook’s Business Help Center to learn how pricing works for Facebook Ads.

Choose a Format

Next, you’ll need to choose your ad formats. You can show a single image or video in your ad, or use a multi-image format to show more offerings at once. The six ad formats Facebook offers are:

  • Photo
  • Video
  • Stories
  • Messenger
  • Carousel
  • Slideshow
  • Collection
  • Instant Experiences

The most traditional are photo and video ads, but you might want to experiment with different formats depending on what you’re promoting. Learn more about Facebook’s Ad Formats here.

Place Your Order

Once you submit your ad, it goes to Facebook’s ad auction, which helps get it to the right people. Ad auctions determine the best ad to show to a person at any given point in time. The winning ad should maximize value for both people and businesses. Learn more about ad auctions from Facebook here.

Measure and Manage Your Ad

Once your ad is running, you can track performance and edit your ad campaign in Facebook’s Ads Manager tool. From there, you can see if one version of your ad is working better than another and make adjustments as needed. Measuring your ad performance and optimizing for efficiency will help you get the most out of your ad budget.
